#1 Friends and Lovers: Aired Monday, October 29, 2001

To her latest quirky therapist , Ally describes bumping into Jenny Shaw, an attorney who's lost her job and her boyfriend. Ally sees so much of herself in Jenny that she hires her, hoping to be a mentor. But when the two arrive at the office, they find out that not only was Corretta hired earlier, but Richard has just hired Glenn Foy, Jenny's ex. Ally's therapist gathers that Ally is attracted to Glenn, but Ally says it doesn't matter because Jenny still loves him. John overhears something that makes him think Ally is in love with him. He has himself completely convinced that he's in love with her too until he realizes that she just loves him platonically. Ally and Jenny start a class-action suit against phone companies that harass people by calling them at home during dinner. Ally is attracted to their opponent from Jenny's old law firm, Raymond Milbury.

#2 Judge Ling: Aired Monday, November 5, 2001

Ling is appointed as a small claims court judge and is shortly thereafter offered her own TV show due to her unique personality in court. Ally and Jenny's phone solicitation case is jeopardized when they meet their colorful key client, Claire Otoms, but they are at least able to refile the suit as a nuisance case. Corretta gives John a man makeover. Ally's attraction to Glenn grows while Raymond openly hits on her.

#3 Neutral Corners: Aired Monday, November 12, 2001

Following Richard's advice, John finally tells Ally that he's in love with her and Ally tells him she can't love him back in that way. Glenn encourages Raymond to ask Ally out for real after the case is over. Ally, Jenny and Glenn triumphantly settle their phone company case for $15 million after threatening their opponents with a TV ad. Ally and Glenn finally admit their attraction to each other, but even though Jenny says that she'd like it if Glenn dated someone she was friends with, they realize they can't get together and hurt Jenny that way. Ling, now a judge and therefore no longer able to practice as a lawyer, has a going-away party from the firm and insists that Glenn sing for her.

Sparks fly between Jenny and Raymond when she defends him in a sexual harassment case. John Cage has gone missing and Richard takes over his hole. Ally and Glenn are having trouble working together.

#5 I Want Love: Aired Monday, November 26, 2001

Ally and Glenn defend Jenny's mother Frances in a sexual harassment suit because she was fired for dating a much younger man. The suit elucidates some things between Ally and Glenn and they finally kiss. Richard is totally taken by Frances but can't get her to take him seriously. Ling tries to spice things up for her TV show and ends up having a wedding band perform in her court room. Ling, Nelle, Elaine and Coretta go out to pick up guys but end up at an ice-cream parlor. Raymond tries to pursue things with Jenny. Elton John performs at the bar.

#6 Lost and Found: Aired Monday, December 3, 2001

John returns and is mysterious about where he was, but furious with Richard for redecorating and sharing his hole. John finally explains that he was trying to remember the pleasure in human company. Ally and Glenn end up on an awkward double-date with Raymond and Jenny for Jenny's birthday, and it becomes clear that Glenn and Jenny are still in love. Richard and Corretta help a woman who used to scam older men for money be allowed to marry the older man she truly loves, but they regret their win when it turns out the woman's true love is an undercover detective trying to bust her. Ling does a semi-nude photo shoot for a magazine.

#7 Nine One One: Aired Monday, December 10, 2001

John Cage is depressed by the lack of Christmas spirit in his own office while he represents a man who wants to get his town mayor to let him have the annual town Christmas parade that was cancelled this year. Ally helps a minister retain his job and his belief in God after the brutal murder of his wife. Ally is surprised to find out that the minister is her old prom date Malcolm's father, and Ally helps Malcolm re-discover his voice in the wake of his mother's death. Some of Jenny's insecurities in her relationship with Glenn are brought to light when she catches Elaine flirting with Glenn while practicing a number for the firm's Christmas party.

Kimmy Bishop returns and gets John and Coretta to help her sue a matchmaking company who refunded her money because they said she was "unmatchable." Jenny's mother prepares for her upcoming wedding to a younger man, but that younger man hits on Ally. Ally is troubled by a new hallucination of a little boy with ice skates.

Ally buys a fixer-upper house. Ally defends a man who bankrupted his wife by buying her too many presents. Glenn is jealous when Jenny discovers a vibrating chair at a chiropracter's office that gives her sexual pleasure. Ally hires a charming handyman named Victor to help her with the house.

#10 One Hundred Tears: Aired Monday, January 21, 2002

Ally helps a man fulfill his dream of flying just before he dies. Ally finds herself attracted to Victor. The firm hires Harriet Pumple's match-making services. Richard ends up on a date with a very elderly woman with a huge wattle. Elaine goes out with Victor. John refuses Harriet's help, but all his friends say he's the one who most needs it.

#11 A Kick in the Head: Aired Monday, February 4, 2002

Ally finds out that she has a ten-year-old daughter, Maddie, due to an egg donation she made many years ago for experimental use. Fortunately, Ally's contractor, Victor, is on hand to provide a measure of counsel and wisdom. Those are qualities, meanwhile, that John finds sorely lacking in Richard, who is first chair (and guarantees an acquittal) as they defend a man who kicked his wife to death.

When Cage makes it known he wishes to leave the firm and only return to work on big cases, Richard turns to Ally for support and makes her a partner. When Ally goes over the firm's books, she learns that the firm is actually losing money and she's authorized to make changes to cut costs. Meanwhile, Ally has become an overprotective supermom, which drives Maddie crazy. Corretta goes up against Raymond in an AIDS-discrimination case.

Ally decides that she must make some personnel changes at the law firm and let a lawyer go. Meanwhile, Richard takes on a new case and represents Claire Otoms, who was fired for using the bathroom at her company. Ling resolves to become a warmer person and tries to help Nelle work up the courage to sing at the bar. Maddie asks to have a sleepover.

Ally insists on taking a DNA test after having continuous nightmares that Maddie is not actually her daughter. Meanwhile, an older woman visits Ally's new home looking for Vincent Graves, her former lover. When she sees Victor, the woman insists that Victor is actually Vincent; and Claire convinces Richard that he must connect with a past friend to heal some lingering emotional wounds.

A young girl, who has cardiomyopathy, will die in six weeks unless she receives a heart transplant. The girl wants Fish to petition a judge to allow her father, who's in prison for murdering her mother, to donate his heart to save her. Victor claims Ally is an elitist after overhearing her explain why they don't mesh. Meanwhile, Ally, with Maddie's urging, finally finds the courage to ask Victor out on a date. Maddie is caught smoking at school.

The firm goes up against a shrewd young attorney and calls in John to oppose her in a case involving a woman fired for refusing to go to a femininity seminar. Ally interviews a lawyer looking to work at the firm who is cocky, successful, opinionated, and wreaks havoc on Ally's personal and professional life. Claire announces her engagement, and Ally is suspicious of her intended.
